Covid-19: What can we do?

Due to covid-19 we are all in unprecedented times. The virus has caused the complete

shutdown of tourism worldwide and the Ugandan government has rightfully put measures in place to protect its citizens and wildlife.

However, there are entire rural communities in Uganda that almost entirely rely on the income from tourists and the trickle-down effects from the money they spend. A complete shutdown of tourism has left the most vulnerable struggling to survive.

Many in these communities live hand to mouth and don’t have money saved up to support themselves during this time, so I’m sure you can imagine the difficult situation people are in.

One of our directors, Richard, lives in one of these rural tourism-based communities and can see people struggling to get by. Although times are tough for us, we are lucky to have low overheads and have enough income from other sources to survive. We are fortunate and in a position to help those less so.

We hope to donate basic supplies including food, soap and drinking water to those who need it most. We are asking those who are also in a position to help during his time to donate whatever they can afford.

We understand that this is a difficult time for everyone, but if you are willing and able to help then that would be incredible.

100% of the donations we receive will go directly to the families struggling most. We want to be completely transparent and will post pictures both on our website and social media of all the donations being handed over.

If you have any questions or would like to find out how to donate, please email: ben@eastafricandiscovery.com

If you are interested in supporting us as a company, or would like something to look forward to, we are currently offering $500 vouchers to be used on any safari with us for the reduced amount of $350. The vouchers can be used anytime up to 5 years after the Ugandan tourism lockdown ends. Get in touch for more information on that.
